Shopify is a hosted commerce platform: the store, its checkout and its admin run on Shopify's infrastructure, and the merchant adds features through apps. Before you automate against it
You cannot reach a Shopify database; everything goes through the admin API, with access granted by the store owner through a custom app limited to chosen scopes. By default an app sees only recent orders; older ones need an extra permission. API versions are retired on a published schedule, so an automation needs upkeep.
